HOW TO IDENTIFY A CHICKEN THAT DOESN'T LAY AND REMOVE IT (CULLING)
CULLING It is the act of identifying a chicken NON-LAYER or non-breeder and remove from your flock of laying hens for slaughter, sale or other domestic use.
Why do you do CULLING??
↪️Reducing the loss of food and medicine for non-producing (non-laying) chickens
↪️Giving a chance to breeding (laying) chickens
↪️Reducing the possibility of diseases and problems such as eating eggs.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF CULLING
Remove the hen during growth when they are about to take them to the laying house (Laying house). ~ hens to be removed are those smaller than their peers, with deformities in their mouths, legs and wings, with injuries because they will be able to cause problems for the nesting chickens Remove the chickens when they have already started laying after 8 or 10 weeks because the chickens will have grown well
✍️ In this 2nd method,
we look at the external appearance of the chicken's organs, such as the mouth, eyes, color of the turban, head, abdomen, pubic bone.
#DO THIS EXERCISE IN YOUR FIELD,
There is a huge difference between a laying hen and a non-laying hen by looking at these characteristics...
Check the following for laying hens on the 8th or 10th week when the hens have already started laying eggs
⤴️ KILEMBA (Comb); For a hen that lays, the turban is large, slightly erect, shining red...... For a hen that does not lay, the turban is small, flat and pale
⤴️MOUTH (Beak); for the hen that lays has a bleached beak.... the one that doesn't lay has a yellow beak
⤴️EYE (eye); for the hen that is laying, it is shiny and then it is full by protruding a little (prominent).... For those who don't sleep, the eye is pale and slightly sunken (sunken eye).
⤴️STOMACH (Abdomen); big for a laying hen and then soft….. for a non-laying hen it is small and then a little hard.
⤴️SECTION OF NEED (vent); for laying hens, the vent is large, moist and bleached.... For non-laying hens, the vent is small, dry and yellow.
⤴️BONE IN THE VENT AREA (Pubic bones); for the chicken laying, that part leaves room, you can put more than 3 fingers of the hand.... for a hen that does not lay eggs, this area is as small as ONE finger
